Mountain Tops

How it Looks within the M3BP Details Panel

Note: To use the Mountain Top Settings – you must first turn on the “Enable Mountain Top Snow?” toggle, within the Material Instance that’s applied to the Terrain. The toggle for it can be found in the “Feature Toggles/Performance Settings” section of the Material Instance.

Setting Definitions

  • Height Start (Mountains):
  • The Z-Axis distance at which texturing starts transitioning into a snowy region.
  • Blend Amount (Mountains):
  • The contrast level for that transition, between base texturing and snowy mountain peaks. This transition is also complimented by a noise pattern in order to give a more organic look to the transition.
  • Transition Scale (Mountains) (Main):
  • First set of noise pattern applied to the transition between snowy peaks and base texturing (Usually larger scales in this area, look better, to give a large amount of difference in texturing).
  • Transition Scale (Mountains) (Secondary):
  • Second set of noise pattern applied to the transition between snowy peaks and base texturing (Usually medium to smaller scales in this area, look better, to give a detail amount of difference in texturing).
  • Transition Intensity (Mountains):
  • The amount that the transition noise pattern effects the blending between mountain peaks and base texturing.
  • Transition Contrast (Mountains):
  • The contrast level for that transition noise pattern +Intensity, between base texturing and snowy mountain peaks.
  • Large Detail Normal Flatness (Mountains):
  • The amount that the underlying cliff or foothill normal texture effects the area of the snowy mountain peaks (gives better looking normal maps to the peaks, when viewed from a distance).
