Virtual Heightfield: Troubleshooting

Experimental Tech Disclaimer

Virtual Heightfield Mesh (VHFM) is experimental engine tech in its current engine plugin state (Version 0.1 even in UE 5.1), errors can occur when using it under some circumstances.

Keep that in mind while using it. We have to wait for a more stable version of VHFM from Epic until 100% of issues can be completely ruled out.

Known Engine Problems and Solutions

Problem:

The Landscape has turned invisible after I deleted an object out of the world in Unreal Engine 5.0.

Solution:

This is a common problem with VHFM and the 5.0 version of the engine (this specific issue was solved by Epic in UE5.1). To solve it in UE 5.0, if it happens, just reload you map or restart the Editor.

Problem:

The Landscape has turned invisible after I’ve moved the entire Landscape, Heightfield, or sculpted it by a lot.

Solution:

This is because by moving the landscape or sculpting outside of the VHFM bounds, it has caused the bounds to no longer be aligned with the landscape. To fix it, simply rerun the RVT+VHFMsetupWidget and it will automatically realign the bounds for you. Directions on how to do that, can be found here.
