Biomes in M⁴ are categorized by three different types (Desert, Island and Tundra) and are used as a starting point to generate any visual that you would like to achieve with your landscape. To access the biome presets, simply click on the Magic Map Material BP asset that has been placed within any of the default maps that come with M⁴. Its icon looks similar to the image on the right, or you can click on “MagicMapMaterialBP-V2” within your World Outliner. It can also be found in the “M4/Blueprints” folder.
After selecting the blueprint, go to the details panel of it within your editor and scroll to the section called “Landscape Presets”, there you’ll find Drop Down Menus and a button labeled “Apply Landscape Preset“.
Terrain Biome Presets change the overall look of the terrain to fit one of the three biome categories. To see the changes, click on “Apply Landscape Preset”. As a note, it may take a little bit for the new Biome to load, as often times, it is a complete change to the landscape texturing and look with shader compiling sometimes required.
Performance Presets, does just as the name implies – changes the performance level of the terrain. By default, the highest setting is enabled, which may or may not be idea for whatever project you’re working on.
To view the performance impact of whatever preset you choose, press Alt + 8 on your keyboard while in editor. To go back to normal viewing mode press Alt + 4.
For further explanation and fine tuning of the performance settings for each Biome, go to the section called Optimization & Performance Settings .
