Island
The maps that come with M4 can be found in the “M4/Maps” folder, currently there are seven maps that are included with the pack. The first map that opens with M4 is the Island map and looks similar to the picture on the right. Here you’ll find a few tutorial window panes that explain the basics on how to use the features and some other intricacies of the project.
Tundra
If you navigate to the “M4/Maps” folder you’ll also find a map called “Tundra_Demo”, the level looks similar to picture shown here. On this level you can see what the Tundra Preset looks like applied to a terrain. Every biome preset’s visual settings can be tweaked in the Details Panel of the the MagicMapMaterialBP. This map also has full scale, Terrain Trails enabled by default to showcase this new feature (added in Version 1.5) when used with snow.
Desert
“Desert_Demo” is the map that shows off the Desert Preset, feel free to fine tune any visual settings of any of the biomes to see what the system’s capable of. To change the Biome Preset within the MagicMapMaterialBP please see this article.
Terrain Generator
The “TerrainGenerator_Demo” map houses an example of Terrain Generation already set up and ready to go. The procedural Generator doesn’t only make Island style maps, but I figured this was the most visually appealing way to showcase it, with the water and all. To get started, read the instructions within the large window panes. By default the Terrain Generator is pointing towards a 4km x 4km landscape. Mess around with the landscape generator to get familiar with it’s settings, to understand more about what each setting does, turn on the “Show Tooltips” toggle, located at the top of the Terrain Generator Widget. Terrain Trails & Trampling
M4 comes equipped with a Terrain and Foliage trail system. The “TrailAndTrample_Demo” map has multiple examples of different types of character and object terrain trail mechanics on it. Within the Tutorial Window Panes, included with this map, you’ll find instructions on how to easily set up terrain trails to work with any character, object, terrain material, or ground foliage. As well, directions on how to use the Terrain Trails Blueprint and where to find the settings so that you can customize your terrain trails, can all be found on this map.
Mobile Version
The Mobile_Demo map showcases one of the newest editions to the pack, a mobile version of the landscape shader. Here’s great starting place for mobile and VR games with it’s own mobile optimized version of the Terrain Material.
World Composition 8K Terrain
Lastly, but not least, this pack comes with a 8K World Composition Landscape, already set up for use with the Material Blueprint and the Terrain Generator. The map’s name is “WorldComp_Demo” and it can be found in the “M4/Maps/WorldComp_Demo” folder. This one has to have its own folder because that’s how World Composition needs to be set up, so that it can detect all the levels in the same folder as itself. Have fun making 8k terrains and generating them in engine!
